HD EMBED CODE - 1280x720: SD EMBED CODE - 640x360: The perception of the visual effects industry is being broadcast in a variety of ways dependent upon the propaganda best suited to the fear of the studios as they position themselves around this goose that's laying golden eggs. It's not the software so much as the finite collection of truly bi-talented individuals around the planet that are capable of giving them their limitless story telling. Technical and creative genes are a rare mix, right and left brained, equal dominance occurs in a tiny fraction of the human genome. Even in Los Angeles I'm usually one of the few Americans in the room. Schemes of control have evolved as the film mafia walks up and down the blocks collecting their protection money and keeping the barriers to entry up as they're scared to death the prize horse, the one that wins every race, will escape them, not need them, and replace them. Those same forces of evolution that have freed up the software have also freed up the distribution channels. This wonderful thing called the internet is free, uncontrollable, and allowing the rarest of our species, the artists, to communicate freely with each other. Film subsides are our new front. Getting the WTO and Obama to live up to their promise and take down this illegal barrier to entry. Fixed bidding without a blue print, the most laughable business plan on the planet, is next. These pretty items have kept the visual effects industry in a weakened state, like a hostage given enough bread and water to stay alive as every life giving fluid is sucked out of them. These imbalances, like water under pressure, always seek their own level and then burst to it. We are bursting. This creative dust bowl is only going to eventually prop up one hand in one conference room of one studio and like the child in the fable that screams "The Emperor is not Wearing any Clothes!" he's going to cry out about the nakedness they've built up around them. A nakedness that will surely yield no protection as the water burst across their man made desert and drowns them out. |
